Unless for some reason the Kitsunebi of Japanese folklore came to mind before the classic, more familiar wisp. (Kidding, but actually, I think you do have Kitsunebi-influenced things in your story: the reason ghosts are sometimes depicted with those little swirly things are because of the idea of Kitsunebi, which are basically wisps that Kitsune, at the time just meaning fox spirits and not the more specific versions, to lure people away like wisps of Europe did. Interesting, isn’t it?)
