That girl with her hood up in the third panel is my new favorite character. Sorry Ian, the comic is going a new direction and focusing on her how. What should her partner be? Maybe a serval. Those are rad.
Bro… you didn’t. YOU DIDN’T! Oh. My. Gosh. That’s a mixed guy, with an ethnic hairstyle???? YES! YES PLEASE!! I’ve seen how much African American children who are “too light” or mixed are treated. Like they aren’t allowed to do anything related to black culture, but they also aren’t light enough be considered white either… it’s sad. I’ve encountered something similar personally. Because I look white (I am part white), if I dare to even say I’m Hispanic (which I am. Mi Abuelo immigrated here from Mexico) I’m called a liar. Or, once when I was little, I was so excited that the dress we’d bought (in a style that’s very popular in Mexico) would finally fit (it was a size too big at first) that I wore it to school. I was called rascist. So… Anyway, stuff like this matters. I don’t care if he’s unnamed and never speaks, you’re willing to let him exist. You’re not afraid of “whitewashing” allegations, because people who look like him do exist and deserve to be seen.
Why are so mant Spiders so genuinely amazing at representation. And respectful. You make him look cool, and established way he’s here, so for a background character… that’s the right amount of depth.
