The Ghost Dog 090

This page took a few extra weeks to get out. Two weeks ago, my dog passed and I wasn’t super psyched about jumping back into making my comic about a guy and his ghost dog.

But, hey, let me say this: Trevor will always be fine. At no point in this story will Trevor “die” or be banished from this plane of existence or whatever. That wasn’t really a thing I was ever able to handle in fiction, so it was never going to be an issue here, but I might as well come out and tell y’all now. He’s a good boy and he’ll stay a good boy.

  1. I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost one of my dogs this past August. He was the best… but he’d gone nearly completely blind, and his arthritis had gotten so bad that he couldn’t do much of anything. Sometimes, even walking on the hardwood floors was too much… so we put him down. He was happy till the end, I think. They say dogs can tell when they’re truly loved, and beleive me, he was. And if you’re writing a comic about the love of a man and his dog, I have a feeling yours felt very loved too. That’s what matters.
And now I’m tearing up… it hurts, losing your best friend, but I can still look back and remember the time we had together. He’d want to know he left me with so many happy memories. A dog’s purpose is to bring joy with what little time they have, and (as someone who beleives in a heaven) I want to be able to say I spread that joy even after he was gone when we one day reunite.

On a slight side note, I already nearly finished that fanart I mentioned, and I decided it would feature him (as a ghost dog) and Trevor. I think they’d be friends, if they met. He was a very sociable dog… he loved people, other dogs, and even the ducks that visit our pool every year (once he got used to them. At first he chased them away, but after a few years, he starting to become pretty fond of them. He even started going outside more when that time of year came, just to say hi. He’d watch them from afar, and the ducks sometimes nodded at him, so he started doimg it too, as a little greeting). I guess this comic made me think about him and his brother quite a bit… I guess it’s a little bittersweet.
